Votes Against the Wall Street Bailout Map

Sep 30th, 2008

10/3 Update: Map of repackaged Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 from The New York Times

Details on the Republican and Democratic representatives who voted to reject a $700 billion rescue of the financial industry.

From The Electoral Map

The New York Times has a great map of the “NO” votes on the bailout bill yesterday.  There’s not really a clear trend since members of both parties and representatives from Cape Cod to Cape Disappointment voted against it.

If we find any pattern, it’s that Members representing financial centers like New York, Chicago and San Francisco supported it, and those from poor urban cores like Detroit and Atlanta opposed it.

But beneath the surface, we can derive a few more clues.

10/2 Update: Theres more maps breaking out this vote available at http://observationalism.com/2008/10/01/the-geography-of-the-bailout-bill-vote/

  1. Fight the Wall Street Bailout

This bailout is nothing but bad news. There is no real crisis, the market sell of is a result of fear mongering by President Bush

The bill allows for foreign banks to dump all of their bad assets into American banks, who can in turn sell the debt to the treasury.

THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE PUT ON THE HOOK FOR WALL STREET, AND ESPECIALLY NOT FOR COMMUNIST NATIONS LIKE CHINA!
