The only thing 100% is the reason blacks voted for him…because HE is black." Oh, Fred Mertz- I don't even know where to start with this completely ludicrous comment of yours. But I guess the beginning is always good. First, this idea that Obama won simply because of the black vote is desperate scape-goating at it's finest. Not only that, it smacks of the knowledge-phobic, intellectually lazy mentality emblematic of many conservative Americans. THE MAJORITY OF VOTES FOR OBAMA WERE CAST BY WHITE VOTERS. In the wake of the election last Tuesday, news organizations have been slicing and dicing the electorate into tiny groups and telling us who voted what way. You can literally sit on your ASS and look up those statistics, but obviously you never even attempted a cursory glance, or else you wouldn't be regurgitating this bogus right-wing tripe about Blacks being responsible for voting Obama into office. Knowledge is your friend. Secondly, Black voters vote Democrat--almost exclusively. This shouldn't be a secret or a mystery. This has been the way since LBJ signed Civil-Rights era legislation into law. Furthermore, black voters didn't initially support Obama. In the early Democratic primary races, most blacks backed Hillary Clinton. It wasn't until later, after Obama had EARNED their support, that he began to see his poll numbers increase amongst Black voters. Thirdly, it is utterly laughable to believe that someone in this country can be elected "just because they're black". They're are absolutely no FACTUAL, HISTORICAL, or STATISTICAL evidence that bears that conclusion out. When a statement is made in absence of supporting factual, historical or statistical evidence, it can only be one of two things: an opinion or a LIE. You statement would be the latter in case you were wondering. Alan Keys, Cynthia McKinney, Shirley Chisholm, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Frederick Douglas are among the handful of Black politicians in our country's history to run for President. NONE of them made it to the general election or received the nomination of a major party--so right there your claim has been debunked by history. “If Obama was white, he would have lost. The only thing 100% is the reason blacks voted for him…because HE is black.”

Oh, Fred Mertz-

I don’t even know where to start with this completely ludicrous comment of yours. But I guess the beginning is always good.

The only thing 100% is the reason blacks voted for him...because HE is black. If he was white, he would have gotten less black votes (as he wasn't black) and less white votes (because of his stances on the issues...higher taxes, "spreading the wealth", attacking the Bill of Rights, abortion, liberal judges, lying about not knowing Rev. Wright's views, etc.). The most historic factor about this election is that Obama is the least-qualified man ever elected. If there was a black man running for the Republicans, I would have no trouble at all voting for him, as long as his stances on the issues were in line with mine (basically opposite of the items previously mentioned). Note also the last part of the socialism line: advocating state OR COLLECTIVE OWNERSHIP. As in our government allowing mega-corps to have enormous central control over products and services. Banks, healthcare, media... all run by a few companies. "It's better for you this way." I forgot one last thing. "Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods..." The government already controls much of the infrastructure under the premise of serving the public good. The Republicans have done nothing to move away from the FCC glomming onto the airwaves and controlling content. Freedom of speech? Only if you follow their rules. The FDA is government control over what we eat or the medication we have access to. In a sense, the FDA already controls our healthcare. Public libraries are a government controlled institution providing knowledge to all. The government may not own the companies, but it controls and has enormous influence over them (in more cases than not, OUR government is usually being influenced by some company.) The Repubs have increased spending far more regularly than the Dems when they're in control of the White House. And BOTH sides pay far too much attention to special interest groups and lobbies. They work together when it serves their needs and bash each other on the air to sway voters so they can try to do an even better job of bettering themselves in the next term. I'm not a fan of either side, but I do find it funny when staunch devotees try to defend their side as "better." They may not be mirror images of each other when it comes to details, but they're close enough.
