Former Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney defeated his Republican challengers statewide, but lost several counties and towns to John McCain, including Boston.

Senator Hillary Clinton defeated Barack Obama by a wide margin statewide, however Obama received pockets of support around the state and managed to win a few counties and towns, including Boston.
